In 'We Were Soldiers' (2002), Mel Gibson stars as Colonel Hal Moore in this retelling of the Battle of Landing Zone X-Ray. The year is 1965 and Colonel Moore's men arrive in the highlands of South Vietnam ready to carry out a search-and-destroy mission. But thanks to a fault in military intelligence, they disembark near a large North Vietnamese army base and soon find themselves surrounded. What follows is a three-day battle resulting in massive casualties for both sides. In 'Hurricane' (2018) a group of Polish pilots from Squadron 303 find themselves both fighting for their lives and for the fate of their country as they assist the British RAF. In a bid to protect Britain and ultimately save Poland, the Hurricane fighter planes must hold their own against technically superior German aircraft if they are to successfully defeat the enemy. As top pilot Jan Zumbach (Iwan Rheon) learns, however, victory comes at a cost. Finally, in 'Anthropoid' (2016), as part of a dangerous mission to assassinate high-ranking SS General Reinhard Heydrich (Detlef Bothe), Czechoslovakian soldiers Jozef Gabc?k (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubis (Jamie Dornan) are parachuted into their German-occupied homeland in December 1941. After being assigned Marie (Charlotte Le Bon) and Lenka (Anna Geislerov?) to pose as their partners as part of their cover story, the two men set about planning the crucial operation. However, with limited intelligence and little equipment available, the men are soon overwhelmed by fear as the Germans close in and the true scale of their assignment becomes clear.
